Error-correcting code memory can detect and correct data corruption. It is used when is it essential to avoid corruption, such as scientific computing or when running a server. DDR memory version Unknown. Newer versions of DDR memory support higher maximum speeds and are more energy-efficient.
Features 1. LTE is capable of downloading at faster speeds than older, 3G technology. The download speed is a measurement of the internet connection bandwidth, representing the maximum data transfer rate at which a device can access online content.
NX bit helps protect the computer from malicious attacks. AES is used to speed up encryption and decryption. A technology integrated into the processor to secure the device for use with features such as mobile payments and streaming video using digital rights management DRM. The upload speed is a measurement of the internet connection bandwidth, representing the maximum data transfer rate at which a device can send information to a server or another device.
VFP version 3. Vector Floating-Point VFP is used by the processor to deliver increased performance in areas such as digital imaging. Multithreading technology such as Intel's Hyperthreading or AMD's Simultaneous Multithreading provides increased performance by splitting each of the processor's physical cores into virtual cores, also known as threads.
This way, each core can run two instruction streams at once. Benchmarks 1. PassMark result Unknown. This benchmark measures the performance of the CPU using multiple threads. PassMark result single Unknown. This benchmark measures the performance of the CPU using a single thread. Geekbench 5 result single Unknown. Geekbench 5 is a cross-platform benchmark that measures a processor's single-core performance.

Courtesy: Chipworks. While it's technically possible for Apple to have ramped up CPU clocks in pursuit of higher performance A9 designs have scaled up to 1. Higher clocks require higher voltages especially on the same process node , which result in an exponential increase in power consumption. This means everything from web page loading to non-gaming app interactions are no faster than they were last year:. JavaScript performance remains unchanged, as you can see from both the BrowserMark and SunSpider results above.
Despite the CPU clock disadvantage compared to the Tegra 3, Apple does have the advantage of an extremely efficient and optimized software stack in iOS. Safari just went through an update in improving its Javascript engine, which is why we see competitive performance here. Geekbench has been updated with Android support, so we're able to do some cross platform comparisons here.
Almost entirely across the board NVIDIA delivers better CPU performance, either as a result of having more cores, having higher clocked cores or due to an inherent low-level Android advantage. Prioritizing GPU performance over a CPU upgrade is nothing new for Apple, and in the case of the A5X Apple could really only have one or the other—the new iPad gets hot enough and draws enough power as it is; Apple didn't need an even more power hungry set of CPU cores to make matters worse.
Despite the stagnation on the CPU side, most users would be hard pressed to call the iPad slow. There's definitely a need for faster CPUs to enable some more interesting applications and usage models.
Typically, the term quad-core is used to describe how many central processing units, CPU or cores, are integrated within a chip. To help those CPUs, chip makers often add a graphics processing unit GPU that will offload graphics tasks like user interface graphics, game graphics etc… many also have a dedicated video unit that decodes and encodes videos streams.
In the Apple presentation, they were talking about graphics cores — this is totally different. And because computer graphics is highly parallelizable, adding more cores is one way to scale graphics performance. Basically, the past two paragraphs say that GPU cores have turned into a marketing gimmick, and that real-world performance is what really matters. This is where the second controversy starts. The best thing to do is to test performance on both platforms with the same applications, and depending on your goal synthetic performance or real-world performance , you want to choose benchmarks that stress the system in a particular way.
There are currently no benchmarks that test the A5X directly against Tegra 3, but there are benchmarks that pit the A5 against Tegra 3. It is an interesting benchmark, but it is fair to say that it is old and does not represent anything that modern games are doing.
