Keep in mind that stability and turn ability are affected proportionally by both the bushings shape and durometer. Are you looking for a set up that mimics the feeling of snowboarding or surfing?
Chances are you are going to want one of the following carving set ups. Carving setups have low resistance bushing shapes and focus on turn ability rather than stability. Want an even looser ride? Try bumping a few duros below your recommended weight class. Great for a carving set up with no need for speed stability. Great for board walk cruising and low speed carving. Divey, surfy feel.
Turn Ability: 9. Stability: 2. Great for mid-speed carving or freeride. The boardside barrel gives some stability at speed while the roadside cone offers great lean and dive.
Turn Ability: 8. Stability: 4. Freeride and downhill bushing setups are ideal for riders willing to sacrifice turn ability for stability. These bushing setups offer greater stability but lack the same low resistance turn ability of a carving set up.
Choose one of these combinations if you are planning on carving larger hills, freeriding, downhill riding or racing. Best Combo: Try mixing green and red for downhill stability and Yellow and Purple for freeriding.
This combination provides good stability at speed while adding responsive predictability in lean control when initiating deep turns and slides. Use flat washers if you are looking to add more lean and cup washers for additional stability.
Designed for stability and excellent rebound, HPF formula provides outstanding damping and rebound for high speed velocity and predictable control when initiating and exiting out of corners.
Purchase two Bushing Packs to complete your longboard. Washers sold separately. As a general rule of thumb, when using stepped barrels or eliminators use a duro lower than you would for a barrel. Eliminators are very restrictive.
The final and most common way to control truck turn is bushing durometer. Some people have a tough time finding the right duro for them. Duro is completely dependent on your weight, it is often helpful to use websites such as bushingpicker. Bushings are the cheapest upgrade you can make for your setup, so be sure to get Venom- the best longboard bushings. Only a small amount of trucks come with good stock bushings.
Your best bet is to get a handful of quality bushings and experiment with your setup.
