Why is clearwire so slow

So here are some reasons to give PogoZone a try as a solid Clearwire alternative. Our standard residential plans offer speeds up to 15 megabit, far faster than most Clearwire plans. For higher speed needs, give us a call and see how we can help. We want you to feel comfortable paying for the service you need, when you need it.

In October, Clearwire finally began clarifying how and when it decides to throttle the network, with one spokesperson saying that Clearwire tries to relieve network congestion by throttling. He added that the carrier treats everyone equally and that it doesn't target specific applications, but it didn't offer details on the triggers or how long the throttling sessions last.

Clearwire's customers are now taking the carrier to task over its ambiguity. The complaint, filed earlier this month, focuses heavily on Clearwire's advertising, which not only highlights the speed of the connection "all but two of Clearwire's plans propose a minimum Internet speed of 1.

We don't slow down your connection—the way some Internet providers do—if we think you are using too much bandwidth," the complaint quotes from Clearwire's website. That text appears to have been removed at the time of publication.

I feel like, with comcast, I have to call them once a year and talk them down from the ridiculous fee they want to charge me. Thanks for the info Scott. I don't care what anyone else says about you, you're alright. November 06, Update: turns out my part of NE Portland is a grey area. Best signal I could get was 2.

Seems weird since the nearest tower is just over half a mile away. Being in Network Operations for Clear not tech support I can tell you that the new service is real wimax not the hybrid expedience that was being sold. The new service, with good signal, has the capacity to supply a sustained 6Mbps with bursting speeds of up to 12Mbps. These speeds are typically seen on 28CINR carrier interference to noise ratio and above. Typically you must have a 12CINR or above to get consistant speeds.

The home units CPEi from Motorola do not supply a way of knowing what the CINR is, only lights on the top, so look for three or more if you are a power user. The USB units however allow you to check real time statistics by going to the folder to the top left of the CCM clear connection manager and clicking on the folder then going to help, then diagnostics, and then to advanced and it will show the RT real time CINR.

This is the easiest way to check for signal strength and any sort of interference you might be having. If you are in coverage area service will be great, if not then it might be an issue. Also on the note of the tech support, just as with any company there can be people that do not exactly enjoy or value their jobs and might let the day to day get to them.

Give tech another chance before making an assumption about the whole company's overall support. Have a great day and happy surfing! January 20, Unfortunately I'm in an area where I can pull signal from only one Tower. I test very inconsistently between 2. They've basically told me to move the modem away from double pane windows and electronics.

It happens to be right behind my TV which is also pretty close to a window about 3 feet away. I've moved the modem all over my house with little improvement to the RSSI. Is a number closer to 0 better for the RSSI? I under the higher the CINR the better. I've also replaced the modem as well and that didn't change things. I personally think the issue has to do with local bandwidth resources, but I don't know enough about this technology or wireless communication to assume that's the problem.

Any thoughts? April 15, I would never suggest that anyone switch to Clearwire. The ads sound great, but the service is in no way on par with the promises. I finally managed to get Clear to release my phone number and switched to another provider.

Our biggest complaint was the phone service. After much haggling and many hours of cell phone time, Clear "graciously" agreed that they could not fix the problem and they would waive the voice early termination fee. At one point a customer service rep suggested that our phone system was at fault and that we needed to replace it. Preferably with a corded phone. I wasn't sure if this person was serious at first, but apparently they thought this would solve the problem.

Mind you, we had internet phone service prior to switching to Clear and did not have any issues using our cordless phones and we now have internet phone service through another provider and have excellent phone service. Has anyone seen a corded phone system for sale anytime in the last ten years? We bought our service as a package. If the phone wouldn't work we wanted to cancel the whole package. Clear was not cooperative and we ended up filing an Attorney Generals Consumer Complaint.

All we want is for Clear to accept the return of the hardware that we purchased for a service that does not work. Today I received Clear's reply to our AG complaint and they decline to refund the purchase price of the hardware. Sadly, they are the fastest internet I can get in Baltimore.

Still, if they are screwing with the majority of their customers, they should go down in flames. I, too, live in Baltimore and lucked out by getting in on the service when it was Xohm, and like the other posters I was told after the service started going south last year that I was being throttled. I was so pissed I cancelled my service right then when the tech told me that, and went without Internet for a bit.

The reason I got Xohm in the first place was because I hated Verizon and Comcast so much, so I kinda screwed myself over by cancelling. I'm like a mile from their CO in the city, though, I really can't imagine that you could get those speeds if you were too much further.

It is a great option if you're downtown. Nice article, as always, though I must point out that I'm pretty sure you're thinking of a pyramid scheme - that's the one where the investors find other investors. I bought it because it was the rock-bottom price, not for speed. I was satisfied with the service. I did have to let videos buffer to watch them uninterrupted.

I was able to play some Warcraft as well lag ms. Then I got upgraded to their 4G service for free as an existing customer. I can generally watch YouTube or Hulu immediately without having to buffer. No problems playing Warcraft lag usually ms. Occasionally their service goes down, which sucks. It is usually back within an hour.

I do not use Netflix, Bittorrent, or other bandwidth-heavy applications. When I do need to download large files e. Warcraft patches I do let it run overnight.

My wife and I can and do use it for web surfing at the same time with ease. Once in a while the speed is noticeably slower, but its not that often. As for reception, I've been fortunate to never have a problem.

Its mobility is also convenient in that I don't have to wait for a technician to get it setup, and I can take it places. Wow, everything you described happened to me, to a tee. Initially we were throttled back to an unusable level, we do nothing illegal online, just plenty of hulu and netflix. Then we had a flood that, "damaged the tower," and after repairs something was "redirected" a candid response from a tech to the greatest concentration of users It killed service for us It was pretty difficult getting the ETF waived for the cancelled account.

Here's the really crazy thing, I still have an account with two mobile lines. Called recently to buy a clear spot to use in place of the WiMax built into my netbook, since I've upgraded to a laptop Seriously, it would be like your phone company saying, you're stuck with that old phone unless you sign a new contract for a new line of service All I wanted was to buy new hardware and use it with my current subscription, and they absolutely won't do it. I want to cancel, but I really want this freaking service for such a low price but with new hardware.

What a bunch of douche bags. Thanks for confirming our suspicions, always knew they were throttling us by the end I'm in the same boat with sean0michael. Not always so good, but really plenty good enough for practically anything I do. Oddly enough some of the fastest speeds I've seen are when I've had a bunch of torrent going. Way better than anyone's DSL I've seen, which costs about the same. Comcast seems more consistent speed and connection wise. Clear customer service, not bad, prompt replacement of a bad modem I own with no quibbles.

So I'm crossing my fingers that they get their act together and don't go under, 'cause my alternatives just aren't that much better.

I'm in the same boat with them - the service started out okay not as fast as Comcast, but fast enough but I noticed it slowly began to degrade over time. By the time they switched to being Clear, I couldn't even stream a Netflix movie without serious delays hell it got so bad at times that I had to wait until a youtube video partially loaded because it wouldn't stream fast enough to keep up with me playing it.

It was a no brainer for me.
